ALT Blood Test

The ALT blood test helps measure the health of the liver. It looks at the enzyme alanine transaminase (ALT) levels.

ALT can be found in small amounts in the kidneys, heart, muscles, and pancreas but is mostly found in the liver. The ALT blood test used to be named: serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT).

If an ALT blood test score is high (or out of range) this can indicate liver damage or disease. More blood tests will be suggested if the results is out of range or high.
