Healthcare Trends

Medical knowledge is growing and evolving at such an astonishing rate that the medical community, including your doctor, is struggling to stay current. New studies, tests, drugs, treatments and procedures challenge all of us to continue to evaluate our existing approaches and long held beliefs.
The universal availability of this knowledge is also a challenge for the medical community. Computers and the internet are a part of everyone’s daily life and have changed the way that we live. Nearly half of all internet users use the net to search for healthcare information with the majority feeling that it influences their decision making. These searches include researching information on a specific disease to researching prescriptions and purchasing medicine online. In some cases users are actually consulting a medical professional for diagnosis or advice.
Information obtained from the internet ranges from mainstream to alternative medicine. Many consumers are exploring a holistic approach to health care. A holistic approach focuses on all aspects of people’s needs, including physical, emotional, spiritual, nutritional, social and environmental as requirements for good health.
Demand is also increasing for alternative approaches to medicine such as homeopathy, naturopathy, herbalism, chiropractic, traditional Eastern medicine, meditation, yoga, biofeedback, hypnosis, and acupuncture. Many people now consider these alternative approaches to be equally valid to traditional medicine.
