The B-Type Natriuretic Peptide (BNP) test measures the level this amino acid polypeptide produced by your heart.  BNP is secreted when heart muscles are stretched excessively.  The BNP blood test helps diagnose heart disease and the severity of damage caused by the disease.  Levels of BNP increase as cardiac problems increase and decrease when heart health improves.
