Chlamydia
is one of the most reported types of STD. Caused by the Chlamydia trachomatis
bacteria; it is transmitted through oral, anal, and vaginal sex. Because the
disease is asymptomatic, 75% of women and 50% of are unaware that they are
infected. When patients do experiences symptoms, these symptoms are mild. If
chlamydia remains undetected, it can cause sterility and ectopic pregnancy.
Gonorrhea is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the neisseria gonorrhoeae
bacteria. It resides in warm and damp areas of the body like the uterus and can
even reside in the mouth, throat, anus and eyes. If the disease remains
untreated it can cause problems like pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility
and ectopic pregnancy.
The chlamydia and neisseria gonorrhoeae (NAA) urine test can identify the
presence of both of these STDs. The nucleic acid amplification test is highly
recommended due to its high sensitivity levels. It is important to detect these
diseases as soon as possible, to begin a treatment plan.
