Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Types 1-/2-Specific Antibodies, IgG

The Herpes Simplex Virus Types 1 and 2 Specific Antibodies blood test, can detect IgG antibodies that are either caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1) or Herpes Simplex Virus 2 (HSV-2). Traditional forms of testing cannot differentiate between the two types of virus. But the HSV Types 1 and 2 Specific Antibodies blood test can make the distinction between the two antigens.

Herpes is an STD that is caused by the HSV-1 or the HSV-2 virus. The herpes simplex virus 1 is the cause of oral herpes. More commonly known as cold sores, this form of herpes infects the mouth and lips. Herpes simplex virus 1 generally does not become genital herpes. However, the nature of sexual activity is changing this fact. Herpes simplex virus 2 causes genital herpes. This form of herpes is transmitted through direct contact an open sore or the body fluid of someone who is infected.

There is no cure for herpes. Genital herpes can be asymptomatic and outbreaks occur in 21 days cycles. Anyone who believes they may have come in contact with this virus should take the Herpes Simplex Virus Types 1 and 2 blood test.
