Thyroid Function Test Level I

Health Testing Centers offers a Thyroid Profile (T3 Uptake, T4 and T7) and the Thyroid Stimulating Hormone blood test. These two tests are good ways to get a complete evaluation of how the thyroid is functioning. The Thyroid Stimulating Hormone Test screens the level of hormones produced by the thyroid. It also helps to monitor the effectiveness of thyroid treatment options. The test can show whether there is an excess or shortage in the amounts of hormones the thyroid is producing.

The thyroid gland helps the body regulate adrenaline and metabolism. Thyroids can function improperly in two ways. One is too produce too much of the T3 hormone. This is referred to as hyperthyroidism. Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include a low body temperature, insomnia and weight loss. Hypothyroidism causes the thyroid to produce too little T3 hormone. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, fatigue and dry skin.

The test is recommended for anyone with a visibly enlarged thyroid in the neck or a slow or fast metabolism.
