Thyroid Profile (T3 uptake, T4, T7)

The thyroid glands produce hormones from the iodine that is in the food we eat. The thyroid produces two hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4). Proper levels of these hormones are necessary to maintain the body̢‰s metabolism and other functions.

Health Testing Centers offers the Thyroid Profile (T3 Uptake T4 and T7 test). This profile is a three part assessment of free thyroxine, T3 uptake (THBR) and thyroxine (T4). When the thyroid gland produces hormones, abnormally functioning thyroids can over produce or under produce their hormones. The malfunctioning thyroid gland can cause hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Signs of a malfunctioning thyroid can include weight loss or gain, dry skin and insomnia.

When a thyroid is functioning abnormally, there are abnormal levels of T4, T3 and free thyroxine. The Health Testing Centers̢‰ Thyroid profile is useful in determining how the thyroid is functioning and the progress of any treatments. The profile is comprehensive and is ordered when there are symptoms of thyroid issues.
